Areas are geofences configured by the admin. Tracking by area means that you will only receive alerts for what you are tracking if they are within your tracked area(s). You can have multiple areas configured at the same time, and different areas for each of the profiles you set up. Tracking by area requires you to not add a distance filter to the command; distance filters are for tracking by location.
Displays all configured areas
Followed by the area name, adds tracking for an area; can add multiple areas in a single command
Followed by the area name, removes tracking for an area; can remove multiple areas in a single command

Your location is specific GPS coordinates that you set, which works hand in hand with the distance filter you set when entering commands. For example, you are able to set alerts for 100% pokemon within 5000 meters of your location, and all unown, regardless of IV, within 10000 meters of your location. You are only able to have one location set at a time, but you can have different locations set for each of the profiles you set up.
Followed by an address (including zip code) or GPS coordinates, sets your location
Followed by a distance filter (i.e. d3000 in this case), displays a map of your location with a circle of the set distance radius; this visually represents the distance and can help you decide what distance filter to use in your commands
